Autumn is a season that not only marks a change in
temperature, but a change in our visual surroundings. Turned
leaves fall to create picturesque seas of red, bronze and amber lined footpaths.
These
gorgeous earthy tones, natural textures and sharp shadows make this time of
year picture perfect.
Daylesford Victoria is a beautiful countryside town approximately
90 minutes from Melbourne. The team agreed we needed a
divine country setting to help us execute our vintage themed fashion shoot and
Daylesford, would be the ideal setting to capture our chosen autumn beauty.
The region is known as the Spa Capital of Australia.
People not only flock to the area to relax and enjoy world class spa
treatments, they also come to view its amazing landscapes, visit art galleries
and indulge in local gourmet food and wines.
At 2pm, Bridgette ‘The Face of Autumn 2013” winner, met us
on location in the scenic center of Daylesford. She was giggling with
excitement and couldn’t wipe the smile off her face. Andrea Micich, our
professional hair and make up artist, was filled with inspiration as soon as
she laid eyes on Bridgette. Ideas were already springing into her head. Without
delay, we jumped straight into clothing, hair and make up stylisation.
It wasn’t long before Bridgette was being fussed over from
head to toe. Andrea, completely in her element, began her first hair and make
up creation, almost appearing to be in an artists trance. Bridgette’s nails
were painted the colour of burnt orange leaves. Outfits were simultaneously
being flung around the room as the team were pre-visualizing what options would
coincide perfectly with our autumn themed day.
For our first shoot, the team decided on two vintage style
dresses by unknown designers. The outfits were hand picked for Bridgette by
Alise and Adriana from the Daylesford Mill
Market earlier that day.
Soon we were heading towards Daylesford Lake – which was the stunning backdrop for the first
part of “The Face of Autumn 2013” fashion shoot. On the way, Alise was
experiencing some sort of creative visual overload and could not wait to
capture her photographic ideas and the team’s concepts in real time.
Bridgette was now well and truly living her unique
experience and was officially behind the scenes of a professional photographic
fashion shoot. It was approximately 4pm in the afternoon, and the autumn
colours and textures were in their prime splendor. The air was still and the
lake was glistening with reflections. The sun was slowly setting in the
background, casting an orange haze over the jetty. The atmosphere was relaxed
and Bridgette took comfort in the fact that “nothing was taken too seriously”.
The sunlight was peeking through our model’s wild blonde locks as she was made to
feel like the definition of beauty “inside and out”.
The second fashion shoot took place in the early evening at The Perfect Drop Wine and Food Lounge, located
in the town centre of Daylesford. It
was here that Bridgette changed into a breathtaking, modified, Collette Dinnigan design – Alise’s much
loved wedding dress! Andrea, with professional ease, then changed both
Bridgette’s hair and make up style. Alise had a grin from ear to ear whilst
shooting the highly styled evening scene.
We could have kept shooting well into the evening due to the
shear fun and enjoyment of it all. However, with regret, Alise eventually had
to call a wrap. The only problem was, we were now spoilt for choice. How would
we choose our favorite image!
‘The Face of Autumn 2013’ described her experience as being
“amazing and so much fun” She added that for anyone who is thinking about
having a professional photography session to “Absolutely do it – don’t even
hesitate. It’s the most incredible experience that you may not do again.”
